I have always possessed an innate fascination with sound and electronics but my journey in audio engineering truly began when I was accepted to SUNY Fredonia’s renowned Sound Recording Technology (Tönmeister) program. As a student, I immersed myself in all things related to the field and had the great privilege of being taught by the likes of two GRAMMY award winners: engineer Dr. Bernd Gottinger and engineer/producer Dave Fridmann.
Shortly after graduation, I was hired by Fridmann to be his full time assistant at Tarbox Road Studios, where I continued to refine my knowledge, expertise, and skill set. I was credited as an assistant engineer on multiple records during this period including MGMT’s “Little Dark Age,” Mogwai’s “Every Country’s Sun,” Vetusta Morla’s “Mismo Sitio, Distinto Lugar,” The Lovely Eggs’ “This Is Eggland,” and Solomon Grey’s “Human Music.”
While I was still employed as Dave’s assistant, I worked directly with guitarist Alec O’Hanley to mix Alvvays’ sophomore album, “Antisocialites” alongside lead singer Molly Rankin at Tarbox for Polyvinyl Records. I also co-mixed “Elon Musk is Making Me Sad” by The Rentals with Dave, which was featured in a WIRED article. Since then, I have continued to work with a diverse array of artists such as Ra Ra Riot, Rostam, Ethan P. Flynn, Humble Braggers, FEELED DAZE, Decho Ensemble, and many others.
These days, I continue to freelance both in and out of Tarbox Road Studios. I record, mix, master, and produce music as well as provide live sound engineering services for theater productions. Additionally, I teach multiple courses within the Sound Recording Technology department at my alma mater, SUNY Fredonia, and I am the Recording and Music Technology Instructor at SUNY Jamestown Community College.
